Iranian forces launched a series of retaliatory strikes across several Middle Eastern nations on Thursday, signaling a sharp escalation in regional hostilities.
US military initiated another wave of strikes directly on Iranian territory, with local media reporting significant explosions on Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, and Chabahar.
Moreover, in the Strait of Hormuz, US forces used Hellfire missiles to disable an oil tanker that was attempting to reach an Iranian port.
In a swift response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the national army launched drone and missile operations targeting US assets in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
Regarding the strikes in Kuwait, IRGC issued a statement claiming its forces “targeted and destroyed the satellite communications center and early warning radar of the US air base in Ali Al Salem and the US military pier in Ash-Shu’aybah with a combined drone and missile operation.”
Tehran said these assaults were retaliation for US attacks on a children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz and a bottled water factory in Khuzestan. IRGC further urged the Kuwaiti public “not to let the ‘enemy use your land to commit aggression and crimes against the people of Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen’.”
The conflict also spread to Jordan, where the IRGC used Khyber-Shakan ballistic missiles to target the Al-Azraq airbase. Iranian officials claimed they “targeted and destroyed the American fighter jet storage ramp and the new American command and control centre in West Asia” at the site.
While the IRGC cited the deaths of children in Ahvaz and Minab as the reason for the strike, the Jordanian military confirmed it intercepted eight missiles during the morning. Iran’s army warned that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is conditional on the end of America’s evils in the region.
In Iraq, five drone attacks struck the city of Erbil, with one shot down near the US consulate and others crashing near a military base.
