A woman died of dengue in Chattogram in the last 24 hours. The woman, identified as Khaleda Begum, 47, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city on Wednesday. During the same period, 78 new dengue cases were reported.

The information was revealed in a 24-hour report sent by the Civil Surgeon Office on Wednesday afternoon. The report covered the period from 8:00 am Tuesday to 8:00 am Wednesday.

With this, three people have died of dengue in Chattogram over the past week. Two people died while undergoing treatment for dengue at two hospitals in the city on August 27 and 28.

Khaleda Begum, who died on Wednesday, was a resident of Noapara in Raozan. She was admitted to Parkview Hospital in the city on August 31. Her dengue test was NS1 positive. She died at the hospital this morning.

The Civil Surgeon Office said 78 people newly infected with dengue were admitted to different hospitals in the past 24 hours. Currently, 187 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals.

A total of 150 dengue cases have been reported in the first two days of this month. One person has died.

In August, 1,202 people were infected with dengue. Two people died during the month. Dengue cases have been rising sharply since August. Doctors said September and October are considered high risk months for dengue.

However, the Civil Surgeon Office calculates the total number of dengue cases based only on information about patients admitted to public and private hospitals. The actual number of infections is higher. This is because many private hospitals and diagnostic centers do not report dengue positive cases to the Civil Surgeon Office every day.
