LPG prices reduced

The price of a 12-kilogram cylinder of privately supplied liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the consumer level has been reduced by Tk 13 to Tk 1,585. The prices of LPG cylinders of other weights have also been reduced at the same rate. Meanwhile, the price of autogas used in vehicles has been reduced from Tk 73.67 per liter to Tk 73.09.
However, the price of a 12.5-kilogram LPG cylinder supplied by the state-owned company remains unchanged at Tk 825 as usual. However, this LPG is supplied in very limited quantities and remains beyond the reach of ordinary people.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new rates for the current month on Wednesday, September 2.
Last month, the price of a 12-kilogram LPG cylinder was increased by Tk 70 to Tk 1,598. In July, the price was reduced by Tk 357 from Tk 1,885 the previous month.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission sets new prices for LPG and autogas every month based on international LPG prices and other related costs.
BERC has been setting LPG prices every month since April 2021 in line with the international market. However, LPG is not sold in the market at the set prices. Amid the gas shortage, many people are turning to LPG cylinders for cooking at home.
The main components used to produce LPG, propane and butane, are imported from various countries. Every month, Saudi Arabian company Aramco publishes the prices of these two LPG components. This is known as the Saudi cargo price (CP).
BERC adjusts LPG prices in Bangladesh based on this Saudi CP as the benchmark price. BERC calculates the dollar price for the entire month based on the average invoice prices of importing companies.
