The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of corruption in recruitment, transfers and promotions at the Ministry of Youth and Sports against former Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan.

An ACC source confirmed to Agamir Somoy on Wednesday that a four-member investigation team has been formed for this purpose.

Along with former Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud, the ACC team will also investigate Ministry Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam, Joint Secretary Sheikh Md. Zobaid Hossain and Deputy Secretary Masud Ahmed.

Asif Mahmud, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, served as an adviser to the interim government formed after the fall of the Awami League government in the student public uprising in August 2024.

Asif Mahmud initially served as adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Later he also took charge of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Asif Mahmud resigned as an adviser on December 10, 2025, ahead of the parliamentary election. After entering politics, he is now serving as spokesperson of the National Citizens Party (NCP).

Asif is now preparing to contest the Dhaka South City mayoral election. Meanwhile, the ACC has launched an investigation into him.

According to an ACC source, the commission believes Asif Mahmud committed "extreme corruption" in transfer dealings, recruitment and promotions at his ministry.

The ACC has received allegations that Tk 7.6 million was taken by securing the cancellation of acting assignments and posting orders for four upazila youth officers who were facing allegations along with Asif.

The ACC has also received allegations that Tk 150 million was taken for the promotion of 150 assistant upazila youth development officers and Tk 200 million for their postings.

According to an ACC source, Asif Mahmud and others formed a syndicate and earned huge amounts of money through corruption in all kinds of youth development activities and led luxurious lifestyles.

No immediate response was available from Asif Mahmud regarding the allegations of corruption.
