New seagoing vessel joins Meghna Group fleet

MGI’s number of seagoing vessels has reached 28

A new vessel has joined the seagoing fleet of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), one of Bangladesh’s largest industrial groups. With this addition, the company’s number of seagoing vessels has reached 28.

The information was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the vessel was purchased from W.F. Artemis Maritime S.A. through MGI’s Singapore based subsidiary Meghna Trade and Commerce. The vessel has a cargo carrying capacity of 63,547 metric tons.

With the addition of the new vessel, MGI’s capacity to transport goods by sea under its own fleet will increase further. The company expects this to make cargo transportation easier and more efficient while saving a significant amount of foreign currency. Standard Bank PLC worked as the finance partner for the purchase of the vessel.

Established in 1976, Meghna Group of Industries has been operating in the country’s industrial sector for more than five decades. The company currently has 57 industrial enterprises operating in various sectors including consumer goods, construction materials, economic zones, shipping, aviation, chemicals, power and energy, paper and tissue.

These enterprises have directly created employment for around 65,000 people. MGI claims that one in every two families in Bangladesh currently uses its various products.
