The government is betraying the spirit of the July uprising and the verdict of the referendum, said Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament.
He alleged that while the government speaks of implementing the July Charter, no concrete steps are being taken in reality.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists today (Thursday) after visiting the grave of Sayeed's Babonpur village, Pirganj, Rangpur, on the occasion of July Shaheed Day.
Nahid Islam said, "Although the people gave their verdict in favor of the July Charter through the referendum, the government has not implemented it. At the same time, there has been no visible progress regarding the 31-point demand or constitutional reform."
He added, "Abu Sayeed's sacrifice on July 16, 2024, propelled the mass movement toward a mass uprising. Abu Saeed is one of the key inspirations of the July Revolution and a pioneering symbol of the martyrs." He also paid his respects to all the martyrs of the July uprising.
Present at the grave visitation were NCP Joint Convener Atikur Rahman Mozahid, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, along with other central and local leaders.
