Police arrest 3 over Kishoreganj BNP leader murder

Police arrested three individuals on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a leader of the Mithamoin Upazila BNP in Kishoreganj.
Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter. The BNP leader has been identified as Jahidul Alam Jahangir, 58. The arrested individuals are Helal, Mohiuddin, and Jakir.
Earlier, around 9 pm, three men launched a sudden attack on Jahangir in front of his residence. He was severely injured after being hacked with sharp machetes. Hadis Mia, 38, a local BNP leader, was also hacked and injured when he came forward to save him during the attack.
Locals initially took the two victims to the Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex. They were later transferred to the Shaeed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The doctor then declared Jahangir dead and Hadis remained under care.
SP Mizanur said, “The three killers came to Mithamoin from Dhaka. Legal action is underway. Initially, it is suspected that the murder may have been committed centered on political disputes. However, the police are investigating.”
