Two held for stabbing BNP leader in Noakhali

Police detained two youths on the allegations of murdering a BNP leader for protesting drug abuse in Kabirhat, Noakhali.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Romel Barua confirmed the matter.
The victim, Md Faruk, 50, served as the former publicity secretary for the ward number 6 BNP unit in Sundalpur Union. Police identified the detained suspects as Md Arshad alias Akash, 24, and Md Sajjad Hossain Akash, 19.
The attack occurred around 11 pm on Wednesday near the Rural Electrification Board (REB) sub-station near Tetultala Market. Faruk succumbed to his injuries around 2 am on Thursday while being rushed to Dhaka for medical treatment.
According to the victim’s eldest son, Md Imran Hossain, Akash is a notorious drug addict in the community. The dispute began on Tuesday at a shop in Tetultala Market when Zahir, a leader of the Upazila Chatradal, confronted Akash regarding his drug habits.
Imran added that Akash openly threatened to kill his father on Wednesday following the confrontation. Later that night, as Faruk walked home after closing his shop, the attackers stabbed him.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Romel Barua said police moved the body to the Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. They would take legal action based on the family’s complaint.
