Says Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
One Land, All Faiths: Bangladesh Belongs to Everyone

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
LGRD (Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives) Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made this statement today, Thursday, during the inauguration ceremony of the Sri Jagannath Dev Rath Yatra festival at the ISKCON temple in Swamibag, Dhaka.
Emphasizing that Bangladesh is not for people of a specific religion but is a country for people of all faiths and castes, the minister said that a state must be built where no one can take special advantages in the name of religion. He added that everyone should be able to live with equal dignity.
Mirza Fakhrul said that following the Bangladeshi nationalism philosophy of martyr President Ziaur Rahman and the political ideals of Leader of the Country Begum Khaleda Zia, the current government is working for the equal rights and development of people of all religions.
The minister described this initiative for mosque imams and muezzins, temple priests, Buddhist monastery officials, and church clergies as an important step toward establishing religious harmony.
He also commented during the event that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has won the trust of the country's people in a short period of time.
Presided over by Satya Ranjan Dhar, the event was attended by Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Bijon Kanti Sarkar, First Secretary of the Indian High Commission Gokul VK, and former Councillor of Ward 40 of Dhaka South City Corporation Makbul Hossain as special guests.
