BNP Law Affairs Secretary Badruddoza Badal said that the recent resignation of 18 Jamaat-backed deputy and assistant attorneys general is a “political stunt”.
He made these remarks at a briefing on the Supreme Court premises on Wednesday.
Badal said, “They resigned yesterday and worked under this government for four months, took salaries, took benefits, and used their titles. After four months, they felt that they needed to resign now or would be removed. So, they brought up some political issues, which is very unwanted.”
According to Badal, his colleagues’ actions were politically motivated. Throughout Bangladesh’s history, it has been standard practice for assistant, deputy, additional, and attorneys general to voluntarily resign whenever there is a change in government.
He noted that officials typically step down either before a new government forms or immediately following an election when power shifts.
Badal added, “Their statement is a total political stunt, politically motivated. This is something we did not expect from them.”
He said, “I want to tell the attorney general that he should investigate and look into all the files handled during these four months to see if they worked for the government or committed sabotage against it.
“Because after taking all the salaries, allowances, and benefits from the government, taking a stand against the government at the end of the day suggests that they did not work to protect the government’s interests.”
