Oman has announced the launch of a temporary sea route for vessels navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the country's state media, this initiative has been undertaken in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Vessels must use this corridor based on designated coordinates, coordinating with Omani authorities through the organization. The objective of this step is to ensure the freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and the Law of the Sea. It was also mentioned that no transit fees will be imposed.
Meanwhile, a resolution to halt military operations against Iran has been approved in the United States Senate. The resolution passed in the Senate with a 50-48 vote. It had already received approval in the House of Representatives earlier.
The vote closely followed party lines, with a few Republican lawmakers agreeing with the Democrats. However, two Republicans did not participate in the voting.
The resolution states that President Donald Trump must withdraw US armed forces from ongoing military operations with or against Iran.
However, according to analysts, this may ultimately remain a largely symbolic decision. (Source: Al Jazeera)
