A defensive performance by Ghana earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against England during their FIFA World Cup 2026 encounter.
The result keeps both nations at the top of Group L as the tournament progresses.
The opening period featured more physical exertion than creative play. Ghana’s defense remained disciplined against consistent England pressure, limiting the Three Lions to a single half-chance when Declan Rice sent a looping header over the crossbar.
England intensified their attack after the interval. Elliot Anderson saw his close-range header blocked, and shortly after, Anthony Gordon struck an effort directly at goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Asare proved reliable again moments later, stopping a low drive from Harry Kane.
Ghana remained dangerous on the counterattack and nearly broke the deadlock with less than ten minutes remaining. Abdul Fatawu sprinted clear of the defense to face Jordan Pickford.
Although Ezri Konsa recovered to disrupt the initial attempt, Fatawu’s second shot accidentally struck his own teammate, Antoine Semenyo, right in front of the goal line.
England missed their best opportunity to secure three points in the 87th minute. A fluid team move allowed Reece James to cross the ball to Nico O’Reilly, whose back-post header crashed off the crossbar.
The rebound fell to Harry Kane, but the captain sent his shot high into the Boston sky. Following this draw, England and Ghana occupy the top two spots in Group L.
Both teams need only a single point from their respective final group matches against Panama and Croatia to guarantee a place in the Round of 32.
