US President Donald Trump has reacted strongly against the new resolution passed in the Senate to stop military action against Iran. He criticized the Republican senators who voted against him, even though they are from his own party. Trump said that because of them, his job has become very difficult.
In a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday (local time), he wrote: "I have cornered Iran, Tehran is ready to collapse, they agree to give us almost everything, for the first time in decades they respect the United States and its President, i.e., me, and just at that moment, the US Senate decided to take an untimely and meaningless 'War Powers Act' vote."
He wrote in a tone of regret: "This resolution lets the world's number one sponsor of terrorism know that the US itself does not like what I am doing with them and that I must stop it. By passing this resolution, it has helped and supported the enemy."
President Trump strongly criticized the four Republican senators, along with the opposition Democrats, for approving the resolution, writing: "These senators have made my job even more difficult. But I will get it done anyway, because I always get the job done!"
Earlier, on Tuesday morning, the Senate passed the resolution by 50-48 votes, limiting Trump's power to conduct war against Iran. As a result, Trump must now obtain Congressional approval before taking any further action against Iran.
Although Republicans hold the majority in the Senate, four Republican members voted against their party and in favor of the resolution. Additionally, all but one Democrat member supported it.
With the passage of this resolution on Tuesday, for the first time, a war powers resolution has successfully passed in both chambers of Congress. However, even though it passed, it is being seen as largely symbolic, as it is expected that Trump will veto it.
