The joy of the festival has also touched Thakurgaon, a border district in North Bengal. On Thursday morning, on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Adha, streams of pious Muslims gathered along the familiar paths toward the Thakurgaon Central Eidgah Maidan. In this familiar field, BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir performed his Eid prayers shoulder-to-shoulder with the general public.
Following the prayers, he embraced the devotees present there and exchanged Eid greetings as a timeless symbol of harmony. Afterward, facing the media, the veteran leader delivered an emotional message to the nation. He urged everyone to draw lessons of unity, sacrifice, and equality from this year's Eid festival.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "On this holy day, my only request to the people of Thakurgaon and the entire nation is— let us all forget all kinds of divisions, unite, and move forward under the guidance of Almighty Allah."
"We must mentally prepare ourselves to make any sacrifice. Through this sacrifice, let us build a Bangladesh of equality by eliminating the suffering of those who are currently destitute, poor, and victims of discrimination in the country," he added.
This main Eid congregation in Thakurgaon turned into a grand gathering for people from all walks of life. Alongside leaders and activists of political parties and local dignitaries, Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Haque and Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain, along with various high-ranking government officials, stood in the same row to perform their prayers. All in all, the main Eid congregation concluded in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
