Police arrest 1,95,000 in crime crackdown

Police arrested 1,95,000 people from 1 May to 26 August to control the law and order situation and curb crime across the country.
Police Headquarters confirmed the matter on Thursday. During the period, the police recovered a huge quantity of firearms, ammunition, local weapons, bomb-making tools, and drugs.
The list of recovered weapons includes various types of firearms such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, shooter guns, LGs, guns, pipe guns, and shotguns.
According to police data, they arrested 53,518 people during special operations. Apart from this, they arrested 1,41,628 people in connection with other cases and regular drives. This brings the total number of arrests under special operations and other cases combined to 1,95,146 people.
During the special drives, police recovered 438 firearms, 4,722 rounds of bullets and cartridges, and 165 magazines, 65 cocktails, two and a quarter kilograms of gunpowder, 893 local weapons, 71 weapon parts, and 21 weapon and bomb-making tools.
The recovered firearms include 153 pistols, 48 shooter guns, 45 LGs, 26 revolvers, 108 guns, 26 pipe guns, seven shotguns, seven rifles, three SMGs, 12 air guns, and one pen gun. During the operations, police also recovered 10,300 chocolate bombs.
Alongside weapons, police conducted operations against drugs. They recovered 1,40,54,559 Yaba tablets, 10,732 small packets of heroin, 30,427 bottles of Phensedyl, 13,865 bottles of foreign liquor, and 560 bottles of local liquor, 12,053 small packets of marijuana and other narcotics.
According to police data, law enforcement registered 23,221 cases regarding the recovered narcotics and arrested 34,043 people in connection with these cases.
