A court has imposed a travel ban on Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams (Parash) and his wife Advocate Nahid Sultana along with one other person. The activities of Awami Jubo League are currently banned. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court Judge Md. Shahjahan Kabir issued the order on Thursday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The other person facing the travel ban is Tanzin Wahab Brishti. However, her identity could not be confirmed.

On the day, ACC Deputy Director AKM Mahbubur Rahman filed an application seeking a travel ban against them. In the application he stated that an investigation is underway into allegations that Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams (Parash) and his family members acquired a large amount of illegal wealth.

The application further stated that during the investigation it was learned that they were attempting to flee abroad. If they leave the country the investigation could be disrupted. It is necessary to prevent them from leaving the country in the interest of a proper investigation.

The whereabouts of members of the Sheikh family have not been known since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. The activities of the Awami League are currently banned. It is also not confirmed where Sheikh Parash and his wife are currently staying.

An audio conversation between Parash and a journalist based in Australia from three months ago has been found on YouTube. During the interim government period the activities of Jubo League were also banned along with those of the Awami League. The ban remains in effect. Meanwhile the court has imposed a travel ban on the Jubo League chairman and his wife.
