Case filed over gun attack targeting journalists in Khulna

A case has been filed against two unidentified suspects over a shooting that targeted a group of journalists gathered in Khulna city. Khulna Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Md. Tanzir Rahman filed the case on Wednesday night.
According to the complaint, the shooting took place on the night of July 14 in front of Abdul Jalil Sheikh's betel leaf shop at the UN Shishu Park under Khulna Sadar Police Station. Police arrived at the scene around 12:15 am and learned that those present included The Business Standard's Khulna correspondent Sheikh Awal, Star TV Bureau Chief Rafiul Islam Tutul, Amader Somoy's Khulna correspondent Syed Rana Kabir, SA TV's Rakibul Islam Moti, and Khulna Sadar BNP Office Secretary Lelin.
Suddenly, two men arrived on a motorcycle from the Satrasta intersection, opened fire at the group, and fled the scene.
Journalist Rakibul Islam Moti said several journalists had been sitting in front of the shop and chatting when the two young men opened fire on them. One of the bullets struck the chair he was sitting on.
Syed Rana Kabir said a bullet fragment hit journalist Sheikh Awal in the chest, causing minor injuries. He is now in good condition.
Khulna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Shafiqul Islam said police are investigating the attack on the journalists with the highest priority. Investigators are analyzing spent bullet casings recovered from the scene and nearby CCTV footage to identify those involved.
