A mother allegedly killed her three-and-a-half-year-old child and injured her eight-year-old daughter in Sakhipur, Tangail on Thursday.
Sakhipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Murad Hossain confirmed the matter. The mother has been identified as Aklima Begum, 35.
The deceased Ashraful Islam was the son of Aklima and Shaheen Miah, while Sidratul is Aklima’s daughter from a previous marriage.
According to locals, Shaheen married his first wife Nasima nearly 30 years ago. Because that marriage produced no children, he married Aklima, and Ashraful was born to this union. Aklima works at a garment factory in Dhaka and spent most of her time there.
At home, Nasima looked after Sidratul and Ashraful. Shaheen and his mother said Aklima returned home from Dhaka three days ago. Later at night, Aklima was inside her room with her two children when family members rushed in upon hearing sudden screams and found both children injured.
Bloodstains were visible on Aklima’s body, and a chopper laid nearby. Shaheen added, “Almost after 30 years, Allah had blessed me with a child. His mother brutally killed him. Not only my child, she also hacked Sidratul.”
OC Murad said, “Sidratul was taken to the Upazila Health Complex. Ashraful’s body is over there also. Aklima has been taken into police custody. Legal proceedings are ongoing.”
