Nana Patekar gave away Rs 150 million meant for car after hearing about farmers’ suicides

Nana Patekar, the veteran Bollywood actor, is known for his intense and angry personality on screen. However, many people may not know how kind and compassionate he is in real life.

Renowned screenwriter Ranbir Pushp recently shared an incredible and emotional story from Nana Patekar’s life. The writer revealed how Patekar changed his decision to buy a luxury car worth Rs 150 million and instead decided to help families of farmers who had lost everything.

Speaking in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ranbir Pushp said Nana Patekar became deeply emotional one day after seeing heartbreaking reports of farmers’ suicides in India. He was supposed to buy a new luxury car worth Rs 150 million for himself the next day. However, after seeing the grieving families on television, he changed his decision.

The next morning, Nana called a friend and instructed him to distribute the entire Rs 150 million among the families of farmers who had died by suicide in numerous cheques of Rs 15,000 each.

Ranbir Pushp said, “A person who can give up his desire to buy a car to wipe the tears of farmers cannot harm anyone.”

Later, Nana Patekar founded the Naam Foundation, which continues to provide financial assistance to thousands of underprivileged farmers.

The writer also spoke openly about Nana’s short temper. He said Nana does not get angry without reason. Rather, his temper rises when he speaks out against injustice.

Once, Nana became angry after seeing someone throw a plastic bottle from a car onto the road. He got out of his own car and picked up the bottle. He then approached the driver at the traffic signal and said sternly, “Gandhiji is gone, but you are still alive. Is it not your civic responsibility to keep the country clean? Or should I throw the bottle inside your car thinking it is a dustbin?”

Recalling the trouble, he faced while working with Nana Patekar during the shooting of Parinda, renowned director Vidhu Vinod Chopra said he had never used abusive language before. However, dealing with Nana taught him to swear. Nana would abuse him on set and Chopra eventually started using abusive language himself to handle the actor.
