Reward announced for information on 16 weapons and 4,798 rounds looted from Rajshahi

A public notice has been issued by Rapid Action Battalion 5 (RAB 5) seeking information to recover 16 weapons and 4,798 rounds of ammunition looted from Rajshahi on August 5, 2024. Rewards have also been announced for information leading to the recovery of the weapons and ammunition.

RAB 5 Battalion Commander Mohammad Faisal Istiak disclosed the information at a press conference at the RAB 5 headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.

According to RAB 5, a total of 164 different types of weapons and 5,352 rounds of ammunition were looted from areas under the battalion during the August incident. Of these, 148 weapons and 554 rounds of ammunition have been recovered.

The notice said informants providing information about the weapons and ammunition will be rewarded. No legal action will be taken against anyone who returns them. A reward of Tk 200,000 will be given for the recovery or return of rifles, SMGs and sniper rifles. The reward for shotguns, pistols and gas guns is Tk 50.

A reward of Tk 1,500 will be given for recovering and handing over sound grenades and tear shells. A reward of Tk 50 will be given for each piece of ammunition of any type recovered and handed over.

A large number of weapons and ammunition were also looted across the country in August 2024. According to RAB data, 1,427 of the 5,942 weapons looted across the country have yet to be recovered. Of the 683,355 rounds of ammunition looted, 279,467 remain unaccounted for.
