Fire authorities said three people died after a helicopter crashed in suburban Los Angeles. The incident occurred around 19:00 local time on Tuesday in the area of Lurline Avenue and Nordhoff Street.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) added that the aircraft went down between two commercial buildings in the Chatsworth neighborhood. Emergency personnel transferred one patient to a local hospital, where their condition remains unknown.

Video footage from the scene displayed two shipping containers and several vehicles burning. The fire department confirmed that crews extinguished the blaze.

Although officials did not immediately identify who operated the aircraft, local media reports suggested that a news helicopter was flying near the location of a fatal bus crash.

LAFD Captain Branden Silverman told CBS, “We do have one confirmed patient that seemed to be outside of the helicopter when it crashed. That person was declared deceased on scene.”

Silverman did not specify how many people were inside the helicopter at the time of the crash.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that the helicopter was not one of theirs. Several news helicopters were in the area at the time, reporting on the bus crash.

Earlier, an SUV crashed into a city bus in Chatsworth, killing two people and injuring six others, according to CBS, the BBC’s US partner. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation into the crash.
