DSCC administrator finds 25% staff absent during surprise inspection

The administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam, conducted a surprise inspection at one of the corporation’s regional offices and found around 25 percent of the officers and employees absent from the workplace.
The administrator also instructed officials to take action against those concerned according to the service rules. The inspection was conducted without any protocol at Regional Office 5 to ensure efficiency and discipline in service activities.
To maintain secrecy during the morning inspection, the administrator left with only his personal car driver. He arrived in front of Regional Office 5 at 8:50 am. He stayed outside for some time and observed the arrival of officers and employees at the workplace.
At 9:02 a.m., the administrator entered the office. At that time, he instructed officials to close the main gate so that no one could enter the office after the scheduled time.
He then inspected various rooms of the office. At the same time, he checked the attendance register. Around 25 percent of the officers and employees were found absent. The administrator expressed dissatisfaction over the matter.
He then instructed Regional Executive Officer Akhtar Unnesa Shyuli to take immediate action against the absent officers and employees according to the service rules.
After inspecting the regional office, the DSCC administrator went to the Shahjahanpur area of Ward 11. There, he monitored the attendance of sanitation workers and checked the attendance register. He found several sanitation workers absent.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the matter, he instructed Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman Talukder to investigate the matter and take action according to the rules.
Later, the administrator led an eviction drive to clear sidewalks from encroachment in the area from Motijheel Peer Jangir Mazar through Motijheel Ideal School, Fakirapul, Arambagh and Dainik Bangla to Bangabhaban.
During the drive, illegal shops and temporary structures built by occupying sidewalks were removed. This made it somewhat easier for pedestrians to move along the sidewalks.
Speaking about the inspection and eviction drive, DSCC administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam said, “No negligence or failure in providing citizen services will be tolerated in the slightest. Whether it is the city corporation’s own employees or any outside party, no one will be spared if they cause public suffering.”
