Local Awami League supporters face allegations of attacking and vandalizing a BNP office and injuring party workers in Kushtia Sadar Upazila.

Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Md Faisal Mahmud confirmed the matter. The clash took place around 8 pm on Tuesday in Nalkola village of ward number 1 under Patikabari Union.

According to BNP leaders, activists, and witnesses, party members were sitting at the ward BNP office. A group of 40-50 people led by Union Awami League Vice President Md Ruhul allegedly carried out an attack on the BNP office while chanting “Joy Bangla” slogans.

The attackers vandalized the office and assaulted the leaders and activists present, injuring 5-6 BNP workers and supporters.

Locals said a sabotage case was filed at Islamic University Police Station. Several individuals, including Ruhul, were named as accused. On Tuesday, after securing bail from court, they brought out a celebratory procession and distributed sweets in the area.

BNP leaders and activists alleged that immediately after gaining release on bail, they launched the attack on the BNP office.

At one point, BNP leaders, activists, and supporters reportedly attacked Ruhul’s house, vandalizing the residence and setting his jute warehouse on fire.

Faisal said the situation in the area is under control and legal action is underway. Meanwhile, additional police forces have been deployed to prevent any incidents.
