At least 50 people, including staff and doctors of the private GAK Eye Hospital, have fallen ill after eating food from Tasty Treat in Dinajpur. They are currently receiving treatment at various healthcare centers in the district town. Authorities have temporarily suspended services at the hospital following the incident.
Anik Chandra Barman, manager of GAK Eye Hospital, said they ordered 60 meal packages from the Dinajpur Boro Math branch of Tasty Treat for a seminar on April 29. The order included fry rolls and club sandwiches. After consuming the food and returning home, around 50 individuals, including officers, employees, and their children, fell ill.
He further stated that the hospital had to temporarily suspend medical services due to the incident and is preparing to file a case against Tasty Treat.
Following the incident, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority conducted a drive at the Dinajpur Boro Math branch. During the drive, officials seized all sandwich-type food items and ordered a halt to the production of fry rolls and club sandwiches.
Gautam Kumar Saha, a food officer at the district office, said authorities collected food samples for testing and have initiated regular legal proceedings against the establishment.
Regarding the allegation, Md. Hasib, branch manager of Tasty Treat, told Agamir Somoy that they had supplied the food in accordance with prescribed standards. He declined to comment further as the matter remains under investigation.
Nurun Nabi, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said authorities would take legal action upon receiving a written complaint from the victims.
