BNP leader Rashed Khan has accused several leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) of leaving an unpaid hotel bill, engaging in unethical activities, and misappropriating party funds.
In a Facebook post, Rashed Khan claimed that the management of a residential hotel repeatedly lodged complaints with NCP leaders Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain but received no response.
According to the post, the hotel authorities also submitted allegations of ‘unethical and obscene activities’ along with CCTV footage for investigation. However, Rashed alleged that 21 NCP leaders left the hotel without paying an outstanding bill of Tk 1,183,200.
He further alleged that the group was led by SM Shahriar, member secretary of NCP’s Dhaka South unit.
Rashed also accused Shahriar of embezzling nearly Tk 15 million collected from NCP leaders and activists during cattle trading at the Golapbagh Cattle Market ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Questioning Shahriar’s political background, Rashed wrote that he had served as the personal officer (PO) of former Awami League lawmaker Monu from Dhaka-5 until the fall of the previous Awami League government, while Shahriar's father had worked as the MP's personal secretary (PS).
Rashed Khan further alleged that after the mass uprising, Shahriar became a senior NCP leader because of his alleged knowledge of Awami League-linked assets and how to recover them.
“This is the new arrangement of the NCP,” Rashed Khan wrote. “The party’s top leaders will visit the graves of the July martyrs while continuing to shelter those accused of wrongdoing. Had they expelled these leaders first and then visited the martyrs’ graves, their souls would have found peace.”
The NCP and the leaders named in the allegations did not immediately respond to the claims.
