The excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup continues to grow, and comments from US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen reflected that enthusiasm. A day after the United States secured its place in the next round with a victory over Australia, expectations among American supporters have risen. Seizing the moment, Christensen appealed to Bangladeshis to support the US team, saying those who back the United States won’t regret it.

He made the remarks on Saturday afternoon after meeting Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Christensen said, “I came here for an important reason. Last night, the United States earned a great victory over Australia in the World Cup. I’m here to encourage the foreign minister and all Bangladeshis to support the United States in the World Cup in the days ahead.”

Christensen added, “If you bet on the United States over the long term, you’ll never regret it.”

After the meeting, the ambassador declined to discuss bilateral issues and instead focused his comments on the FIFA World Cup.

The meeting took place a day before Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first official foreign tour, which is scheduled to begin Sunday with visits to Malaysia and China. Despite the timing, the meeting with the foreign minister was described as a 'routine courtesy call.' Humayun Kabir, the prime minister’s foreign affairs adviser, confirmed the characterization to the media.
