Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed for Switzerland to hold talks with the United States. US news outlet Axios reported this information on Friday, local time.
Earlier, a senior Washington official said that US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, had also left for Switzerland.
On Friday, following severe Israeli attacks on Lebanon, Tel Aviv and Beirut agreed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah under Washington's mediation.
Prior to this, the top leaders of both countries had electronically (virtually) signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war. Now, the US and Iran are working to restart negotiations on the agreement.
A US official also said that Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is in Switzerland to join the talks.
It is not yet clear where and when the talks in Switzerland will take place.
The next round of talks was scheduled to begin on Friday, but was abruptly cancelled due to escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah.
Witkoff and Kushner had led the negotiations with Iran from the US side to finalise the initial memorandum of understanding.
The White House said on Thursday that Vice President JD Vance is also ready to travel for the talks.
The White House did not respond to questions regarding Witkoff's trip to Switzerland.
In the past week, both sides signed a 14-point memorandum, setting a 60-day timeline to end the war and resolve disputes over Tehran's nuclear programme and other contentious issues.
