Trivedi pays courtesy call on Tarique

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday morning at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

PM’s Office confirmed the matter on its verified Facebook page around 12:15 pm. Relations between Bangladesh and India experienced a sudden surge in tension on 5 August following an exchange of views between ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and journalists in New Delhi.

The two neighboring nations are now prioritizing the restoration of ties through dialogue, with meeting between Trivedi and Tarique serving as a key step in that direction.

Since assuming his role as the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka on June, this marks the first time Trivedi has met with Tarique.

He met with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on Sunday. According to officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place at the State Guest House Padma. While officials from both nations were initially present for the discussions, the two leaders later engaged in a private conversation lasting more than half an hour.

Trivedi officially began his tenure as India’s 16th high commissioner to Dhaka on 25 June.
