Morocco surged to the top of Group C after a record-breaking performance from Ismael Saibari secured a gritty 1-0 victory over Scotland at Boston Stadium.
The Atlas Lions wasted no time asserting their dominance, seizing the lead in just the second minute. Saibari ignited the play by sprinting past the Scottish defensive line to reach a perfectly weighted delivery from Brahim Diaz.
After bringing the ball down, Saibari hammered a powerful strike past goalkeeper Angus Gunn into the roof of the net. This clinical finish now stands as the fastest goal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 so far and the quickest goal Morocco has ever produced in the history of the tournament.
The high-intensity momentum persisted after the halftime interval. Saibari nearly doubled the advantage when his deflected shot rattled the crossbar following a sharp, low cross from Bilal El Khannouss.
Moments later, Gunn again came to Scotland's rescue, denying El Khannouss as he attempted to flick home an Achraf Hakimi corner at the near post.
Scotland seized control during the final 15 minutes, mounting a desperate search for an equalizer.
John McGinn, Ben Gannon-Doak, and Scott McTominay launched a series of relentless attacks as the Tartan Army urged them forward. However, the Moroccan defense held firm until the final whistle to protect the lead.
The victory earns Morocco four points, placing them at the summit of Group C ahead of Brazil’s upcoming match in Philadelphia.
