Heavy Rain Forecast as Heat Wave Persists

The forecast said many areas of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may experience temporary gusty or squally winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers. It also forecast moderate to heavy rainfall at places in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

Meanwhile, the meteorological agency said a mild heat wave is sweeping over Noakhali, Khulna, Bagerhat, and Jashore districts and may continue. However, day and night temperatures across the country may remain nearly unchanged during this period.

In its forecast for the 24 hours from 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, the weather office said many areas of Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Sylhet divisions and some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Chattogram divisions may experience rain or thundershowers. One or two places in Khulna and Barishal divisions may also receive rainfall. Moderate to heavy rainfall may also occur at places in Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Sylhet divisions.

The weather office said daytime temperatures may fall slightly during this period, while nighttime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

Over the past 24 hours, the country’s highest rainfall was recorded in Rangamati at 86 millimeters. During the same period, the highest temperature was recorded in Jashore at 36.6 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Sylhet at 21.5 degrees Celsius.

The synoptic situation said an extension of a low-pressure area stretches from West Bengal across the southwestern region of Bangladesh to the North Bay of Bengal.
