BNP has been fighting for democracy for 50 years, while Jamaat-e-Islami does not believe in democracy, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He stated, “BNP was elected with two-thirds of the votes through popular support. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to question BNP's commitment to democracy. Jamaat is a regimented political party. They do not believe in democracy at all.”
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists today after visiting the graves of July martyrs in Munshiganj, where he had arrived to participate in various programs.
Fakhrul further said, “BNP does not believe in one-party rule. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman established multi-party democracy. Begum Khaleda Zia fought for democracy throughout her life. Tarique Rahman has been in exile abroad for a long time due to his struggle to establish democracy. Our party was elected with the support of the people. If anyone questions our democracy, it would not be appropriate.”
The LGRD Minister informed that bilateral relations with Malaysia will be further strengthened. Initiatives are also being taken to reopen the closed labor market.
Earlier in the day, Fakhrul visited the site of a potential bridge construction in the local Mollachar area and assured of its construction. He later addressed a meeting on the district's infrastructure development.
Munshiganj-3 constituency Member of Parliament Quamruzzaman Raton, along with district administration officials, were present at the meeting.
