Army Joins Flood Rescue Operations in Chattogram

Bangladesh Army personnel conduct rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas of Chattogram.

The Bangladesh Army has been deployed in Chattogram under the ‘Aid to Civil Power’ framework to help respond to the district's worsening flood situation. At the request of the Chattogram deputy commissioner, troops have already begun search, rescue, and relief operations in the flood-affected areas.

The Bangladesh Army disclosed the information in a press release issued to the media on Friday.

According to the statement, continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods from upstream have inundated four upazilas in Chattogram; Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish, and Banshkhali. Nearly 400,000 people in those areas have been severely affected and stranded by floodwaters.

In response to the crisis, the Army's 10th Infantry Division has deployed emergency rescue teams along with the necessary equipment to the affected areas.

The statement added that troops from the 24th Infantry Division have also been deployed to Boalkhali, Hathazari, and Fatikchhari upazilas to conduct emergency rescue and relief operations.

According to the statement, the Bangladesh Army is carrying out round-the-clock search and rescue operations to assist stranded residents in the affected areas. To speed up and better coordinate rescue and relief efforts, the 24th Infantry Division has already established three camps in the flood-hit region.

The statement said the Bangladesh Army remains committed, as always, to working alongside the civil administration during natural disasters to protect lives and property. It added that army operations will continue until the safety of affected residents is ensured and the overall situation returns to normal.
