Toll Rises to 424: Nine More Deaths from Measles, Symptoms

Nine more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours (from 8:00 am Monday to 8:00 am Tuesday). Of them, three deaths were confirmed to be caused by measles, while six children died with suspected measles symptoms. Between 15 March and 12 May, the total death toll from measles has risen to 424, including 68 laboratory-confirmed cases and 356 suspected cases.
The information was disclosed in the latest bulletin issued by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services.
According to the report, from 8:00 am on 11 May to 8:00 am on 12 May, a total of 1,105 new suspected measles cases were identified nationwide. During the same period, 87 new cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.
Among the nine children who died in the last 24 hours, measles infection was confirmed in three cases, while the remaining six deaths were recorded as suspected measles-related.
Statistics show that the Sylhet Division has reported the highest number of deaths. At the district level, Sylhet District is currently the most vulnerable area. In the past 24 hours alone, two deaths from measles were reported in Sylhet.
Since the outbreak began on 15 March, the total number of suspected measles cases nationwide has reached 51,567. Of these, 7,024 cases have been confirmed through laboratory tests. So far, 36,881 measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country.
Among them, 32,877 patients have recovered after receiving treatment and returned home. From 15 March to 12 May, a total of 424 deaths have been recorded, including 68 confirmed and 356 suspected measles cases.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and health authorities have advised people to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility if measles symptoms appear. Experts have particularly emphasized ensuring measles vaccination for children under the routine immunization program.
