NCP is moving toward a major organizational restructuring just a year and a half after its launch. The party has decided to dissolve its founding 10-member top leadership structure and reduce it to six positions. At the same time, it plans to expand the responsibilities of members of its highest policymaking body, the Political Council (PC). Party leaders said they are introducing the changes to make the organization more effective, decentralized, and dynamic from the central leadership to the grassroots level.

Multiple party sources said the NCP may formally announce its new organizational structure in the first week of July. The party will then hold its first national council in early 2027. Until then, the restructured convening committee will run the party.

The NCP emerged as a political party for young people on February 28 last year. Although it formed a convening committee for a one-year term at its launch, that term has already expired.

Leaders said party members and activists had called for a new council, but changing political circumstances, party-building activities, and preparations surrounding the 13th parliamentary election prevented the party from holding the council on schedule. The party now plans to strengthen and energize the organization further and hold its first council before completing two years since its founding.

Under the founding organizational structure, the party had a total of 10 top positions, including convener, member secretary, chief organizer, spokesperson, chief coordinator, chief coordinator for the northern region, and chief coordinator for the southern region. Under the new structure, the party will abolish the positions of chief organizer, spokesperson, chief coordinator, and chief coordinators for the northern and southern regions.

Under the proposed structure, the entire central committee will operate as a convening committee. It will consist of one convener, two senior joint conveners, one member secretary, and two senior joint member secretaries.

Party sources said Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam will remain convener, while MP Akhtar Hossain will continue as member secretary. Nasiruddin Patwary and MP Hasnat Abdullah will serve as senior joint conveners. Sarjis Alam and Asif Mahmud will take on the roles of senior joint member secretaries.

Beyond these six top positions, the party may appoint current Political Council members as joint conveners and joint member secretaries. It also plans to create 25 to 30 editorial and associate editorial positions at the central level and form separate subcommittees for each affiliated and associate wing.

The party is not only changing its organizational structure but also reshaping the distribution of responsibilities. It will now assign Political Council members to specific sectors. Through this move, the party hopes to reduce pressure on the central leadership while speeding up decision-making and implementation.

Under the plan, Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain will oversee political affairs. Nasiruddin Patwary will coordinate alliance politics. Sarjis Alam and Asif Mahmud will supervise organizational activities. Hasnat Abdullah and Ariful Islam Adeeb will be responsible for designing and implementing party programs. MP Dr. Atik Mujahid will coordinate professional organizations, while MP Abdullah Al Amin will oversee organizational discipline. Ali Ahsan Junaid will supervise student organization activities, reserved-seat MP Nusrat Tabassum will handle July-related affairs, and Saleh Uddin Sifat will oversee administrative operations.

The party also plans to divide all 64 districts into new organizational regions to expand its organizational reach. Alongside administrative divisions, it may treat historical regions such as Greater Faridpur, Greater Cumilla, Greater Bogura, and Greater Mymensingh as separate organizational divisions. A senior leader will oversee each division and supervise the formation and restructuring of committees at the district, upazila, municipality, and union levels.

The party has already introduced changes to its highest policymaking body, the Political Council. The council has added Joint Convener and MP Nusrat Tabassum, Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar, Joint Convener Ali Ahsan Junaid, Joint Member Secretary Akram Hossain, Joint Member Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat, and Joint Chief Organizer and MP Dr. Mahmuda Mitu. With the addition of the new members, the Political Council now has 18 members.

Party leaders believe the restructuring initiative reflects a strategy to better organize the party ahead of upcoming local government elections. The NCP contested 30 seats in the last parliamentary election and won six. It later secured two reserved seats for women, bringing its current representation in parliament to eight members. The party wants to build on that success and strengthen its grassroots organization to perform well in upcoming local government elections, including city corporation polls. Making the organizational structure effective and active from the central level to unions has now become one of the party’s top priorities.

According to several party policymakers, the NCP is preparing to enter the second phase of its organizational journey after its launch. The party intends to use the new structure to further consolidate the political vision and message of change that defined its founding while building a stronger organizational foundation at the grassroots level.

NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb said the party’s founding organizational structure no longer meets current realities and now requires changes. He noted that many members have been elected to parliament and that new members have joined the party. Considering all factors, the party has decided to redistribute responsibilities. He said the move will make the organization more dynamic and improve coordination in party management.

Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar said the party launched the restructuring initiative to reduce bureaucratic complexities and increase organizational dynamism. He said the party will finalize the new structure within the first week of July and hold its first national council at the beginning of next year. Until then, the restructured committee will carry out its responsibilities.
