The government has taken special measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the country during Eid-ul-Azha. The Power Division said it has deployed 24-hour monitoring across electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems, along with special emergency repair teams on standby.
Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrooq said authorities have taken all necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Eid. She said distribution companies have received required instructions, and the ministry is directly monitoring the overall situation.
The Power Division has introduced special oversight measures during the seven-day Eid holiday to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply nationwide and ensure normal operations.
Officials said they have kept adequate generation capacity ready to meet any potential increase in demand during Eid. Power plants have been instructed to operate at maximum capacity to maintain uninterrupted supply to the national grid.
Member (Generation) of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Md. Jahurul Islam said electricity demand usually decreases during Eid as offices and industries remain closed. He added that rainfall could further reduce demand.
He said electricity demand during Eid may reach 12,000 to 13,000 megawatts. Some units have been kept under scheduled maintenance. In addition, power generation is being supported through heavy fuel oil and furnace oil to meet any surge in demand. He said the country has sufficient generation capacity to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply nationwide during Eid.
He further said that all distribution companies have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock monitoring through online meetings. Officials have been directed to remain present in the field across four BPDB zones so that any damage caused by storms or rain can be repaired quickly.
BPDB said electricity demand in industrial zones and offices declines during Eid, making it easier to maintain stable supply in residential areas. It also said vulnerable transmission lines and substations in the national grid have already been inspected and maintained.
Special control rooms will remain operational across the country for several days before and after Eid. Engineers, linemen, and technical teams will remain on standby to quickly resolve any power disruptions in the field.
The Power Division also said senior officials from all departments and agencies under the ministry will inspect the electricity situation at their respective workplaces or holiday locations and provide necessary directives. They will also submit inspection and electricity-related reports to the Power Division Secretary.
Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO), Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), and Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) have formed special teams in their respective areas.
The Power Division has urged consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity use. It has also advised prepaid meter users to complete recharges in advance.
