The government of Bangladesh has issued a directive to increase virtual participation in official meetings, workshops, and training sessions in order to cut the consumption of fuel oil. Special emphasis has been placed on having field-level officials join online instead of attending in person.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Cabinet Division issued the relevant directive and sent it to all secretaries, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners (DCs), and upazila executive officers (UNOs).
The directive states: In light of the global energy situation, fuel oil savings must be ensured. At the same time, consideration has been given to ensuring that government activities continue to be conducted normally, effectively, and dynamically.
It further states: In meetings, training sessions, workshops, and other events organized by various ministries and divisions, priority must be given to connecting field-level participants through virtual platforms.
Additionally, the directive instructs that participation in divisional-level programs by district-level officials, and in district-level programs by upazila-level officials, should also be conducted online whenever possible.
However, the directive also notes that relevant authorities will be permitted to arrange in-person meetings, workshops, or training sessions where necessary.
With the issuance of this new directive, the previous directive issued by the Cabinet Division on April 12, 2026 on the same subject has been canceled.
