The United States has claimed to have struck more than 100 Iranian military facilities in response to the recent attack on a Cyprus-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Centcom said this was the third round of strikes this week.
Centcom said Sunday morning that it had hit around 140 military targets, including Iran’s missile and drone bases, naval fleets, ammunition depots, communications networks and coastal surveillance sites.
It said that more than 300 targets had been struck over three nights during the week in an effort to reduce Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels freely transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Centcom, since the beginning of May, US forces have successfully assisted more than 800 commercial vessels carrying 400 million barrels of oil in transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran has claimed responsibility for attacking a second vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had struck and stopped a second ‘criminal vessel’ in the Strait of Hormuz.
It warned that if ‘US-Israeli aggression’ against Iran continues, there will be further devastating repercussions in Hormuz.
Earlier today, Iran’s military and the IRGC said they had launched simultaneous missile attacks on US installations in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
