Madrasa teacher arrested for sexually abusing students in Dinajpur

Police arrested a madrasa teacher over allegations of threatening and sexually abusing three minor students at a madrasa and orphanage in Birampur, Dinajpur.

Birampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamim Al Mamun confirmed the matter. The arrested teacher has been identified as Md Ali Hasan.

The father of one of the victims filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at the police station on Friday.

OC Shamim said the three children had been studying for a long time at a Hafezia orphanage madrasa and Lillah boarding in Khanpur Union of Birampur upazila. Ali allegedly took the children to the bedroom at different times and sexually abused them. He threatened to harm them if they disclosed the matter to anyone. But the children later told their family members.

Upon learning of the incident, the victims' family members and locals gathered at the madrasa to interrogate Ali. The situation grew tense, and some individuals beat the teacher. Later, police arrived at the spot, took Ali into custody, and provided him medical treatment at the Birampur Upazila Health Complex.

An anonymous guardian expressed concern, saying, “It is essential to ensure strict monitoring and accountability in residential educational institutions, alongside creating a safe environment for children.”

OC Shamim added that police sent Ali to court following his arrest.
