Import and export resume at Hili Port after five days

Business activity has returned to Hili land port

Import and export activities through Hili land port in Dinajpur resumed on Saturday morning after remaining suspended for five consecutive days.

Commercial activities at the port returned to normal after Indian traders withdrew their indefinite strike.

The import and export of goods between Bangladesh and India had remained suspended since August 30 due to business related complications. As a result, the movement of cargo trucks came to a halt. Business activity also stopped for various groups of people associated with the port including importers, exporters, C&F agents and transport workers.

On September 3, a meeting was held between business representatives from Hili and the district administration of South Dinajpur in India to resolve the business-related problems. Various demands of the traders were discussed at the meeting. After receiving assurances that the problems would be resolved, the Indian traders decided to withdraw the strike. The organization later informed Bangladeshi traders about the decision.

Following this, cargo truck movement through Hili land port resumed this morning. At the same time, import and export activities between Bangladesh and India returned to normal.

Business activity has returned to the port area after the five-day disruption came to an end.
