Three auto rickshaw passengers killed after being hit by covered van in Kaliakair

Three passengers of an auto rickshaw were killed and two others injured after a covered van hit the vehicle in Kaliakair, Gazipur. The accident occurred around 11:30 am Saturday in the Kanchanpur Mirdhabari area on the Kaliakair Phulbaria regional road.

Police could not immediately confirm the identities of the deceased.

Kaliakair Police Station Officer in Charge Shahidul Islam said, citing local residents, that the CNG powered auto rickshaw was heading toward Phulbaria with four passengers. When it reached the Kanchanpur Mirdhabari area, it collided with a covered van coming from the opposite direction.

The auto rickshaw was crushed in the collision and was thrown to the side of the road. Local residents began rescue efforts after the accident. They recovered the bodies of two passengers. Another passenger died while three injured people were being taken to a hospital.

The two injured passengers were later taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex. As their condition deteriorated, they were sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, he said.

OC Shahidul Islam said, “Legal action in this incident is under process.”
