Two More Children Die with Measles Symptoms at MMCH

Two children have died in the past 24 hours, from 8 am Thursday to 8 am Friday, while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) with measles symptoms. With this, the total number of deaths with measles symptoms at the hospital has reached 22. In addition, 24 more children have been newly admitted with similar symptoms. During this period, 28 children have recovered and returned home. Dr. Golam Mawla, focal person of the measles outbreak unit at MMCH, confirmed the information.
Among the two deceased, the five-month-old child was from Islampur in Jamalpur. The child died at around 9:45 a.m. Thursday after being admitted early that morning. The other child, aged 10 months, was from Kalmakanda in Netrokona district. The hospital admitted the child on April 25, and the child died at around 10:00 p.m. Thursday. Authorities have sent another critically ill child to Dhaka.
Sources said that among those admitted with measles symptoms, 22 children have died between March 17 and May 1. Hospital authorities said that during this period, a total of 996 children were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with measles symptoms. Of them, 911 children have recovered and returned home, while 63 children are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
