Storm Forecast Across Several Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that Nor’wester storms may sweep across various parts of Bangladesh with wind speeds ranging from 60 to 80 kilometers per hour until Friday morning.
In a warning issued Thursday night for the country’s inland river ports, the department said that between 8:00 pm and 9:00 am Friday, storms may pass over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, and Khulna from the west or northwest at speeds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour. Rain and thunderstorms may accompany the storms during this period. Authorities have instructed river ports in these areas to display signal number 2.
During the same period, storms may hit Dhaka, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet regions with wind speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour. Authorities have instructed these areas to display signal number 1.
The Meteorological Department also said that Nor’wester storms may strike different parts of the country intermittently over the next 48 hours from 1:00 pm Thursday. The storms may pass over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
During the storms, strong gusty winds may occur along with lightning and hail. In some areas, wind speeds may exceed 80 kilometers per hour.
Considering the potential risks, the Meteorological Department has advised the public to remain cautious.
