Tamim Iqbal has taken responsibility, as head of the ad hoc committee, to hold elections at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The committee has been given three months. It must conduct the election within this timeframe set by the National Sports Council. Questions had arisen over whether those contesting the election from this committee would remain in the BCB or resign before participating. Tamim made it clear that he will contest the election while remaining in the BCB, not by resigning.
Rumors had surfaced recently that Tamim would step down. At a press conference in Mirpur on Thursday, the head of the ad hoc committee clearly stated his position: “I have not personally considered resigning. I will definitely take part in the election. I will follow whatever the constitution permits. I have not even thought about resigning from the ad hoc committee. From the very first day, I have said that I will participate in the election.”
The primary responsibility of Tamim and his committee is to ensure a fair election. Tamim Iqbal said they will leave no room for shortcomings in that effort. The former opener claimed that the fairest BCB election will be held under their leadership: “We have spoken a lot about fair elections… I expect that, under our leadership, there will be a fair election, Inshallah.”
