Fire at NCT Halts Cargo Handling Operations

A fire has broken out at Jetty No. 3 of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Sea Port. The blaze started in the engine of a Rubber-Tired Gantry Crane (RTG)—a container transfer machine—prompting an immediate suspension of container handling operations at the jetty.
The fire broke out today (Monday) around 2:30 PM, and it could not be brought under control until 3:15 PM.
Fire service teams arriving on the spot and are attempting to extinguish the fire. It is not put off yet, until filing of this report at 3:20pm.
Several loaded containers have been seen burning in the yard in front of NCT Jetty No. 3 as a result of the fire.
Nasir Uddin, acting secretary of Chittagong Port, confirmed the incident regarding the fire.
The fire service is working at the scene. The cause of the incident will be investigated after the fire is extinguished, he said.
