Tarique, Anwar Boost Bangladesh-Malaysia Relations

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a high-level bilateral meeting on Monday to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
According to the Press Wing of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the meeting took place at 10:30 am local time at the Perdana Putra Building, the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office.
The two leaders engaged in discussions covering a wide range of issues concerning the interests of both nations. Following the initial meeting, they led delegation-level talks where they reviewed the overall state of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
Central to the discussions was the reopening of the labor market for Bangladeshi workers. The leaders also prioritized the regularization of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, the renewal of work permits, and increasing market access for Bangladeshi agricultural products, including mangoes, fruits, and vegetables.
The dialogue extended to regional cooperation, specifically Bangladesh’s application to become an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner and its inclusion in regional economic partnerships. Additional topics included the Rohingya crisis and continued cooperation within the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
Following the meeting, and in the presence of both PMs, the two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cultural cooperation.
Moreover, the Foreign Ministers of both countries exchanged a document regarding cooperation in counter-terrorism research and capacity building, as well as a bilateral document concerning investment.
The diplomatic session concluded with both PMs participating in a joint press conference.
