The first round of talks between the United States and Iran has concluded. The discussions were held in a highly positive and constructive atmosphere, and mediators Pakistan and Qatar have reported encouraging progress.
This was confirmed in a joint statement issued by the two mediating countries.
The talks were held on Sunday at a luxurious Swiss resort.
The statement said that the US and Iran have agreed to form a high-level committee to politically oversee the entire negotiation process.
The main negotiators will regularly update this high-level committee on all developments. They will also lead various working groups.
These groups will primarily focus on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions, as well as oversee compliance with the agreement through monitoring and dispute resolution groups, among other important matters.
The joint statement announced that the high-level committee has agreed to develop a roadmap with the goal of reaching a final agreement within the next 60 days.
As part of this process, strategic discussions on all issues will continue on other days this week in Switzerland.
At the same time, the US and Iran have agreed to establish a de-confliction cell to ensure the cessation of all military operations in Lebanon. Qatar and Pakistan, as mediators, will assist and coordinate the operations of this cell, which will include Lebanon.
It should be noted that despite a ceasefire agreement, fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continues in Lebanon.
The peace talks between Iran and the US began yesterday (Sunday), two days later than originally scheduled.
The talks, which began in Bergenstock, Switzerland, are expected to last 60 days. The goal of these negotiations is to reach agreements on the issues covered in the 14-point memorandum of understanding signed last Wednesday, in order to permanently end the conflict.
The meeting between the two sides began yesterday at 5:00 PM Bangladesh time. The first session lasted approximately 80 minutes, after which a recess was taken. Following the first session, representatives from Qatar and Iran held discussions. As of the time of this report at 11:30 PM, those talks were ongoing.
