Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has instructed field level police officers to curb crime with the support of the public. He said they must remain alert about all kinds of propaganda and rumors. Necessary measures must be taken by collecting advance intelligence before any incident occurs.

The IGP made the remarks in his concluding speech as chair of the final session of the quarterly conference of Police Headquarters held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital on Saturday.

Earlier in the morning Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzur Morshed Chowdhury was present as the special guest. Additional IGPs, commissioners of various metropolitan police units, range DIGs and superintendents of police from different districts attended the conference.

The IGP said police are working for the country and the welfare of the people. He called on everyone to perform their duties in unity.

At the conference, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Khondkar Rafiqul Islam presented an overview of the country’s overall crime situation during the three months from April to June this year.

The meeting discussed cases related to robbery, banditry, murder, rape, attacks on police personnel and kidnapping during that period. Discussions were also held on pending arrest warrants, the outcomes of case investigations and judicial proceedings and the conviction rate.

The meeting instructed police to give greater priority to investigations into robbery and rape cases. Emphasis was placed on increasing supervision of cases involving attacks on police personnel. The meeting also stressed reducing pending cases and increasing the conviction rate. Field level officers were instructed to investigate general diaries (GDs) concerning missing persons with due importance.

At the conference, Additional IGP Md. Mustafa  Kamal, head of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI); Additional IGP Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID); Additional IGP Md. Rezaul Karim, head of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU); Additional IGP Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB); and Additional IGP Sardar Nurul Amin, head of the Special Branch (SB), gave necessary instructions to field level officers regarding the activities of their respective units.

At the event, 26 police personnel were awarded IG Badges in recognition of commendable work on the occasion of Police Week 2026. The IGP handed the badges to them.
