Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the government to reform various ‘black laws’ imposed on newspapers and the media over the past 17 years. The laws are being reviewed, and necessary reform initiatives are underway, according to Atikur Rahman Rumon, the prime minister’s additional press secretary.

The Prime Minister’s Office organized a news conference to mark the completion of five months since the elected government assumed office following the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The news conference began at 3:30 pm Saturday at the Karobi Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon.

Prime Minister’s Adviser and Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, and other members of the prime minister’s press wing were present at the news conference.

After being elected by the people in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on Feb. 12 this year, the BNP government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began its new term after assuming office on Feb. 17. As part of that continuation, the news conference was organized Saturday to mark the completion of five months in office.
