Health minister inaugurates cholera vaccination drive

Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has inaugurated a preventive oral cholera vaccination campaign on Thursday morning at the auditorium of the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Sakhawat said, “Preventive oral cholera vaccine can be given to children over one year of age. There must be at least a two-week gap between the two doses. Protection against cholera can be obtained for at least 3-5 years after taking the vaccine.”
He added that the first dose will be given from 22 August to 21 September, while the second dose will be provided from 26 September to 25 October. He urged the public to participate and receive the vaccine in both phases.
Sakhawat remarked, “Several diseases including measles and dengue have to be handled together, but there is nothing to be worried about. Due to the city corporation’s efforts, the rate of mosquito growth in Dhaka has remained under control so far this year.
He sought the cooperation of citizens to prevent dengue.
