The long-standing conflict between Yemen's Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia is again spilling over into maritime routes and oil installations. The Houthis have claimed to have carried out 31 military operations against Saudi targets in just one month, including oil tankers, military facilities, and naval vessels. During the same period, they also claimed to have prevented 48 Saudi oil tankers from moving through regional waterways.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Houthi spokesman Amin Hayyan said these operations were conducted from July 20 to August 19. He claimed the attacks were in response to Saudi military deployments and alleged violations of Yemen's sovereignty.

According to Hayyan's claims, eight Saudi oil tankers were targeted during this period—five in the Red Sea and three in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. Additionally, the group claimed to have prevented a total of 48 Saudi oil tankers from operating: 14 in the Red Sea and 34 in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Separately, the Houthis claimed to have carried out nine operations targeting Saudi oil facilities in the regions of Yanbu, Najran, Jizan, and Abha, as well as in the country's eastern province. They said these attacks were in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on Yemen's Sanaa airport and Hodeidah seaport, and for alleged violations of Yemen's airspace over the Saada and Hajjah regions.

The Houthis claimed that hundreds of Saudi and Saudi-backed fighters were killed or wounded in these operations, and that large amounts of military equipment were destroyed. They also claimed to have sunk or disabled two amphibious landing ships near Yemen's Mokha coast and more than 10 additional military naval vessels in the Red Sea.

Saudi authorities have not yet commented on any of these claims.

Hayyan issued a warning, saying that if Riyadh escalates tensions again, the response will be "proportionate." In recent weeks, tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have been steadily rising. The Houthis have already claimed multiple drone and missile attacks on Saudi territory and energy facilities.
